Janet Moore lives and paints in the coastal fishing village of Bodega Bay, California. Her minimalistic landscapes of coastal prairies, ranch land pastures, historic barns and farms are admired for capturing an authentic sense of rural Sonoma, Marin and Mendocino Counties. Using a simplified palette and a minimalistic style, her images suggest a type of visual poetry.
“Geometry of the landscape and the architecture of pastoral life is my inspiration. Northern California is rich with landscapes anchored by historic family farms. The vibrant colors of grassland pastures, dairy farms and ranches has always inspired my work. Recently I have been experimenting with painting in just black and white. Bodega Bay’s dependably-present summer fog inspired me to try and capture the unique milky, monochromatic light that comes with fog. On some of my newest pieces I’ve added thin layers of transparent color over the black and white painting. This work is more subdued than my past work and reflects my recent experiences with loss and life.”
