Workshops and Classes for 2012

Painters Studio: starts January 18 2012   Wednesday 1-4pm
Two 6-week sessions  Jan 18 – Feb 22 and Feb 29 – April 4, 2012
This open painting session is for the experienced painter, working in any media, who wants dedicated studio time in a friendly, productive environment.  There is no formal instruction, but Janet will demonstrate one new concept with each session, provide still life set-ups for those interested and offer a voluntary critique at each session. Fee: $25 per session or $125 for six weeks prepaid. Discount for SCA members.

Weekend Workshops
The following intensive 2-day workshops are designed to get students painting immediately.  Offered in a fun, informative and non-judgmental atmosphere, students will learn both the fundamentals of painting plus have the chance to experiment with new materials and techniques including Janet’s unique limited, transparent palette.  Use of the instructor’s materials eliminates costly supply lists for first-time students. All workshops are designed for acrylic paints due to speed of drying, but oil paints are acceptable with certain provisional use of low toxicity and low VOC materials.

January 28 – 29  10am – 4pm   Getting Started: Methods and Materials  FULL
Using acrylic paints and materials supplied by the instructor you will begin painting immediately as you learn how to prepare a palette, choose and use brushes, palette and  painting knives, prepare your painting surface, begin a painting, mix pigments, develop form and dimension using value, and the use of techniques such as glazing. Appropriate for inexperienced and beginning painters. Fee: $225 includes all materials.
Discount for SCA members.

February  18 – 19  10 am – 4pm   Intermediate Color, Design and Composition
Color theory, mixing color from a limited palette, design and composition for landscape and still-life, intermediate techniques for brush and knife painting are taught through hands-on exercises. Also included is an introduction to the “functional critique”.  Appropriate for experienced painters at all levels. Fee: $210  Discount for SCA members.

March 24 – 25  10am – 4pm   Exploring a Minimalist Approach
This class suggests an approach to developing a personal style in painting, specifically one that is slightly or fully abstracted. Creating a simplified image requires interpretation and translation; often this is more challenging then simply painting what you see.  This session explores design, composition, color and imaging techniques that will help inspire your personal style. Appropriate for experienced painters at all levels. Fee: $210  Discount for SCA members.
